Upgraded tours on the USS Missouri are premium, docent-led experiences that go beyond the standard self-guided visit. These small-group tours grant exclusive access to restricted areas of the ship and provide deeper insight into its operations, history, and the daily lives of its crew. Guests hear personal stories, see original equipment up close, and enjoy a more immersive understanding of key locations like the captain’s quarters and engineering spaces—ideal for those seeking a richer connection to the ship’s legacy.
The Captain’s Tour (45 mins, $32 + admission) offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into leadership life aboard the battleship. Designed for guests aged 10 and up, the tour explores the wardroom, Radio Central, the Captain’s in-port cabin, Combat Engagement Center, and Gun Turret #1. Expect steep ladders and tight spaces; closed-toe shoes and good mobility are advised.
The Chief Engineer’s Tour (60 mins, $32 + admission) dives into the heart of the ship’s mechanical operations. Visitors aged 10+ can explore Broadway, Fire Room #4, Engine Room #4, and the Aft Plotting Room—where they’ll even have the chance to simulate firing the ship’s guns. This tour also involves climbing narrow stairs and maneuvering through confined areas.
Restrictions and Availability: Each upgraded tour is limited to guests aged 10 and above and accommodates a maximum of 10 participants per time slot. Due to safety considerations, guests must be able to climb steep stairs and navigate tight spaces independently. Tours operate on a fixed schedule with limited daily departures, and spots often fill up quickly—advance booking is strongly recommended to secure your preferred time.

The Chief Engineer’s Tour showcases the power and mechanics behind the Mighty Mo that made her one of the biggest and fastest battleships in history. Venture down Broadway, the longest and widest passage on the ship, and learn about the role of the Chief Engineer, or CHENG, and the more than 500 Sailors under his command. Make a stop in Fire Room #4 where you’ll get an intimate look at one of the eight three-story Babcock & Wilcox boilers. After feeling the heat, head aft into Engine Room #4 and see the machinery responsible for propelling the 887-foot battlewagon at top speeds of more than 30 knots. As a bonus, guests will make a final stop in the aft plotting room to see the analog fire control computers for the 5” and 16” guns, plus, pull the trigger that fires the big guns! All will leave with an appreciation and understanding of the ship’s snipes, the men who worked below the water line in the heart of the Missouri.
For your safety, please note that this is a physically strenuous tour and is not recommended for those with mobility constraints. You must be able to climb several sets of “ladders,” (Navy-talk for steep, narrow stairs), step over many two-foot-high obstacles and navigate through tight doorways and low overheads. Closed-toe shoes are recommended, and this tour is limited to guests ages 10 and above. This intimate tour has a capacity of ten visitors at a time and runs approximately 60 minutes.
