Meet Chuck the Iguana — Your Guide to the Mighty Mo

Chuck isn’t just the Battleship Missouri Memorial's playful mascot; he’s inspired by a true story of life aboard the Mighty Mo and the Sailors who helped shape her legacy.

During one of the USS Missouri’s missions, crew member Angelo “Rosie” Rosselli encountered an iguana that quietly became known as the ship’s little stowaway. More than a companion, the iguana became a reminder that even at sea, moments of curiosity, connection, and joy could be found in unexpected places.

Inspired by Rosie’s story, Chuck the Iguana was brought to life as a guide for today’s young explorers — helping bridge generations and connect families through shared discovery aboard the Battleship Missouri Memorial. Chuck embodies curiosity, exploration, and the joy of uncovering stories hidden in plain sight.

Chuck's Quest Experience

Young explorers can join Chuck on an interactive scavenger hunt aboard the Battleship Missouri during their visit. Designed for children ages 4-12 (but fun for all ages), this self-guided booklet transforms a ship tour into an exciting mission led by Chuck the Iguana.

Follow Chuck through 14 stops around the ship as kids search for hidden signal flags, decode crew messages, and uncover real stories from the Sailors who served aboard the world’s last battleship. Along the way, explorers learn about Navy jobs, daily life at sea, and the history of the USS Missouri.

At the end of the adventure, participants can be sworn in as Honorary Mighty Mo Crew Members and receive a special keepsake from the Battleshop.

Chuck’s Shore Leave Adventure: Bug Juice on the Loose! 

While on shore leave, Chuck made 10 stops across O‘ahu… and he may have left a little bug juice behind. 

After months at sea, the Mighty Mo’s favorite iguana has stepped off the decks of the Battleship Missouri and onto the shores of O‘ahu. From neighborhood parks to scenic lookouts and beloved local landmarks, Chuck is exploring the island the only way he knows how, with curiosity, adventure… and plenty of Bug Juice. 

Now it’s your mission to track it down. 

Throughout Spring Break, we’ll be dropping clues on our social media revealing where Chuck has “accidentally” left behind his Bug Juice. Find one of the 10 hidden bug juice drops, follow the redemption instructions, and you could score exclusive Chuck swag and a free Family Membership to the Battleship Missouri Memorial. 

Adventure isn’t just on deck, it’s across the island.

Chuck's Bug Juice is on the Loose! (“Promotion”) is sponsored by the USS Missouri Memorial Association, Inc. (“Sponsor”). 

1. Promotional Period 

The Promotion begins on March 17 and ends once all ten (10) Bug Juice prize drops have been found or no later than March 31, whichever occurs first. 

2. Eligibility 

Open to legal or military residents of the State of Hawai‘i and visitors physically present on O‘ahu at the time of participation. Participants under 18 years of age must have parent or legal guardian consent to redeem prize. 

3. How to Participate 

Sponsor will post clues on Chuck’s official Instagram account (@chucktheiguana) directing participants to public locations on O‘ahu where a “Bug Juice” bag may be hidden. 

Participants must: 

• Locate the Bug Juice bag
• Follow posted social media instructions
• Tag @ChuckTheIguana and @battleshipmissouri
• Use designated campaign hashtag
• Send direct message confirmation with contact information  

Only the first verified finder of each unique Bug Juice bag will be eligible for that drop’s prize. 

Prize Details 

Each verified finder will receive: 

• One (1) Chuck merchandise prize pack
• One (1) Family Membership to the Battleship Missouri Memorial 

Approximate retail value: $ 100 

Limit one prize per family/household. 

Prizes are non-transferable and have no cash value. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute items of equal or greater value. 

Safety & conduct 

Participants must search responsibly and safely. 

The following are strictly prohibited: 

• Entering restricted, private, or fenced property
• Digging, climbing structures, or unsafe behavior
• Disturbing wildlife or natural areas
• Trespassing 

Bug Juice bags will only be hidden in publicly accessible areas and will not require unsafe actions to retrieve. 

Sponsor is not responsible for injuries, damages, or losses resulting from participation. 

Verification 

Sponsor reserves the right to verify all claims. If a dispute arises regarding the finder of a Bug Juice bag, Sponsor’s decision is final. 

Unclaimed prizes must be claimed by April 30, 2026. Any prize not claimed by this date will be forfeited at Sponsor’s discretion.

Publicity 

By accepting a prize, participants grant Sponsor permission to use submitted photos and likeness for promotional purposes without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.

Sponsor reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the Promotion at any time for any reason.
