Accessibility at the Battleship Missouri Memorial
The Battleship Missouri Memorial welcomes guests with disabilities and provides a range of accessible features to ensure an enjoyable visit:
Wheelchairs: Complimentary wheelchairs are available at the main entrance. Please speak with a staff member for assistance.
Accessible restrooms are available at the aft Brow and on the pier before the entry gate.
Pier & Boarding Access: There is a wheelchair accessible ramp at the aft entry Brow provides access from the pier to the Main Deck for guests using wheelchairs, walkers, or strollers.
On-Board Accessibility: There is an elevator on the ship, providing access from the Main Deck to the Surrender Deck, allowing wheelchair users and guests with limited mobility to reach the primary historic areas-- to the Surrender Deck to hear the Surrender story and see artifacts.
The lower decks, upper decks, flying bridge, and most interior compartments—including cabins on all decks—are not wheelchair accessible due to narrow passageways, steep ladders, and historic layouts. The Wardroom on the Main Deck is the only interior room accessible by wheelchair.
Seating areas: Chairs and benches around the ship allow people to sit and rest. Please remember that ladders and stairs are steep, making handholds difficult for visitors.
Accessible Facilities on the Pier: Slider’s Grill and The Battleshop are fully accessible to wheelchairs and walkers.
Shuttle Service for Guests Using Wheelchairs
The Battleship Missouri Memorial is dedicated to ensuring accessible and safe transportation for all guests. Our daily shuttle service includes at least one vehicle equipped with a wheelchair lift. For safety reasons, guests using electric or motorized wheelchairs are asked to transfer to a standard manual wheelchair for the shuttle ride. Our staff will assist with the transfer and will securely store the powered wheelchair beneath the shuttle during transport.
Experience for Guests with Limited Mobility:
Visitors can enjoy major highlights from the accessible exterior decks and the Surrender Deck without navigating ladders or confined spaces.
Service animals are welcome aboard the Missouri, although it is unlikely that they can negotiate the steep ladders.
Hearing-impaired visitors
With advance notice, the Missouri ticket office can arrange for a sign language translator through the Hawaii Office of Accessibility and Communication. Please contact us at (808) 455-1600 at least two weeks before your visit. Arranging for a sign language specialist can take up to ten days.
Visually-impaired visitors
Visitors with visual impairments, accompanied by a friend or family member, can easily navigate the ship with a bit of caution. However, there are a few potential obstacles to be mindful of, such as low steps, narrow spaces, and low-hanging objects. Escorts should be vigilant and help guide guests around these hazards to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for everyone onboard.
