Robert Kennedy
Electrician's Mate Second Class (EM2c)
October 15, 1925 - September 23, 2025
Mr. Kennedy, born on October 15, 1925, was born in Mt. Kisco, New York. He enlisted in the Navy in White Plains, New York, went to basic training in Sampson, New York, and then was assigned to the USS Missouri in Brooklyn, New York.
Mr. Kennedy served aboard the Missouri from 1944 to 1946 as an Electrician's Mate Second Class (EM2c) in the KE Division of the Operations Department. He was an eyewitness to the Formal Surrender aboard the Missouri.
About his first impressions of the Missouri, Mr. Kennedy said, "I was awed... I thought, my God, I gotta get up there and crawl around. It wasn't too long before I knew one end of that ship from the other... It was quite an experience."
Mr. Kennedy resided in Saratoga Springs, New York, before passing away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 — just three weeks shy of his 100th birthday.
We were deeply honored to welcome Mr. Kennedy back aboard the Mighty Mo one last time for the 80th Anniversary of the End of World War II — a final homecoming for a man who helped write history.
Fair winds and following seas, Mr. Kennedy. Aloha ‘oe.
