Transportation & Parking: The Battleship Missouri Memorial is located on an active U.S. Navy base and is accessible to the public via our complimentary shuttle from the Pearl Harbor National Memorial Visitor Center.

For the Veterans Day Sunset Ceremony on November 11, 2026, the final shuttle will depart the Battleship Missouri Memorial at 6:00 p.m. All vehicles must exit the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center parking lot by 6:30 p.m.

Parking fees at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center will be waived on Veterans Day.

Major General (Retired) Suzanne P. Vares-Lum serves as Director of the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, where she advances security cooperation and develops leaders equipped to address complex challenges across the Indo-Pacific. Born and raised in Hawaiʻi, she served 34 years in the Regular Army, Army National Guard, and Army Reserve, retiring in 2021 after senior assignments at U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, including service as acting Chief of Staff and acting Deputy Commander. During Operation Iraqi Freedom III, she helped establish and lead the Joint Intelligence Center in Balad, Iraq. A former President of the East-West Center, she remains active in community and international affairs, and her honors include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Ellis Island Medal of Honor, and induction into the Army ROTC National Hall of Fame.

Lieutenant Colonel John P. Alamodin serves as Director of the State of Hawaiʻi Office of Veterans’ Services, where he leads statewide programs supporting veterans, their families, and survivors. Directly commissioned into the Army in 2011, he began his active-duty service at Fort Hood, Texas, serving as Behavioral Health Officer in Charge for the Family Advocacy Program and the 85th Combat and Operational Stress Control Detachment, 1st Medical Brigade. Now a member of the Hawaiʻi Army National Guard and its Chief Behavioral Health Officer, he has deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Spartan Shield, and Inherent Resolve, and has served Hawaiʻi during the COVID-19 pandemic and multiple disaster-response missions, including the Maui wildfires. His career reflects a steadfast commitment to service members, veterans, and communities throughout Hawaiʻi.

Rear Admiral Alma Lau Grocki, a Honolulu native and the first woman from Hawaii to enter the United States Naval Academy, graduated in 1981 and went on to serve 35 years in the U.S. Navy. An Engineering Duty Officer with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, she held leadership positions in ship and submarine maintenance, commanded nine Navy Reserve units, served as the first National Director of SurgeMain, and concluded her career as Deputy, Naval Sea Systems Command, and the Navy Reserve’s senior Engineering Duty Officer. Her decorations include three Legions of Merit, five Meritorious Service Medals, and four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals. Since retiring as a rear admiral in 2016, she has continued serving the military and veteran community through nonprofit leadership focused on veterans’ quality of life and the preservation of historic military sites.
