Former USS Missouri crewmembers and their families gathered for a heartfelt reunion aboard the Battleship Missouri Memorial on Monday, September 1, 2025. Hosted by fellow crewmember and BBQ Pitmaster Moe Cason, this special gathering offered a meaning opportunity to reconnect with shipmates, share sea stories, and enjoy great food in the spirit of camaraderie.
Guests enjoyed live entertainment throughout the afternoon, adding to the festive and nostalgic atmosphere. A tribute to those who once called the Mighty Mo home, the event was truly a feast that nourished both the stomach and the soul.

Mahalo To Our Event Host, Moe Cason
Moe Cason is a US Navy veteran, former USS Missouri crewmember, and award-winning BBQ Pitmaster. After serving aboard the Mighty Mo, Moe pursued his passion for barbecue, earning national recognition for his expertise in slow-smoked meats and bold flavors. He has competed in numerous BBQ competitions and has been featured on popular cooking shows. As the host of the Battleship Missouri Memorial's Steel Beach Picnic, he brings his legendary BBQ skills to create an unforgettable gathering for his fellow crewmembers.
What is a Steel Beach Picnic?
A long-standing naval tradition, a Steel Beach Picnic is a well-earned break for sailors, where they gather on the ship’s deck to enjoy a cookout, relax, and build camaraderie. With grills fired up and the open sea as a backdrop, these picnics provided a much-needed morale boost during long deployments.
