The Battleship Missouri Memorial Commemorates the 25th Anniversary of the USS Missouri's Historic Final Journey to Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor, HI – (June 22, 2023) – Today, the Battleship Missouri Memorial proudly commemorates the 25th anniversary of the USS Missouri's momentous journey to its final resting place in Pearl Harbor. This significant milestone is marked with a captivating new onboard exhibit that honors the remarkable legacy of the late Senator Daniel K. Inouye. Additionally, an engaging virtual Mo-Joe discussion featuring esteemed guests who played pivotal roles in the Mighty Mo's historic tug across the Pacific Ocean will take place this afternoon.
The new onboard exhibit is a testament to Senator Inouye's unwavering dedication to his country and the instrumental role he played in advocating for the proper resting place of the USS Missouri to be in Pearl Harbor, beating out several other cities and organizations. Visitors to the exhibit will have the opportunity to explore Senator Inouye's remarkable journey, from his early years in Hawaii, to his pivotal role in the preservation of the battleship.
In addition to the exhibit, the Battleship Missouri Memorial is hosting a virtual Mo-Joediscussion this afternoon to celebrate the 25th anniversary. Join esteemed guests, former USS Missouri Memorial Association President Roy Yee and the renowned former Captain of the ocean-going tugboat Sea Victory, Kaare Ogaard for exclusive insights into the challenges and triumphs they encountered during the ship's relocation to Pearl Harbor.

In the battleships 25 years, she has welcomed nearly 10 million visitors from across the globe aboard her decks. The State of Hawaii and Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam have been gracious hosts to this top visitor attraction and floating museum.

About the Battleship Missouri Memorial
Since opening in January 1999, the Battleship Missouri Memorial has attracted more than 9-million visitors from around the world with a fascinating tour experience showcasing the USS Missouri’s unique place in history. Located a mere ship’s length from the USS Arizona Memorial, the Mighty Mo completes a historical visitor experience that begins with the “day of infamy” and sinking of the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and ends with Japan’s formal surrender aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945.
The USS Missouri had an astounding career over five decades and three wars – World War II, the Korean War, and Desert Storm – after which it was decommissioned and donated to the USS Missouri Memorial Association, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Association operates the Battleship Missouri Memorial as a historic attraction and oversees her care and preservation with the support of visitors, memberships, grants, and donations.
