Battleship Missouri Memorial Celebrates Dual Birthdays with Free General Admission for U.S. Military Members and Kama'aina Guests

Experience Two New Tour Attractions with Exclusive Access Onboard the Mighty Mo

Pearl Harbor, HI –  Celebrate the Battleship Missouri Memorial's dual birthdays on January 29th with exciting new tour attractions and FREE General Admission for Kama‘aina guests and all U.S. military active duty, retirees, dependents, and veterans.
Tour the Mighty Mo like never before with two new experiences, the Captain's Tour and Chief Engineer's Tour. Now open to the public, guests of these upgrade tour experiences will be granted exclusive access to off the tour route spaces and experience first-hand what life was like onboard one of our nation’s most historic battleships.
“This year marks 24 years since the opening of the Battleship Missouri Memorial in Pearl Harbor and 79 years since the ship's launching, and what better way to honor these milestones than to offer free general admission to our valued military and local communities," said Mike Carr, president & CEO of the USS Missouri Memorial Association. "Our new tours are truly one-of-a-kind and always leave our guests with a deeper appreciation for our military services members who served onboard the iconic battleship.”
The Captain’s Tour showcases authority and command operations as the captain would have experienced onboard during their time of service. Walk in the footsteps of the battleship's 20 great commanding officers by entering the most luxurious space onboard, the captain’s in-port cabin, where distinguished visitors were invited, including President Harry Truman, Bob Hope, and Marilyn Monroe. Continue with a stop in the Combat Engagement Center, home to the ship’s modern weapons system, before heading to the Navigation bridge where the captain would command the ship while underway. Finish the tour with a bang at the final stop inside of Gun Turret #1 to see the inner workings behind the Mighty Mo’s famous big guns.
The Chief Engineer’s Tour showcases the power and mechanics behind the Mighty Mo that made her one of the biggest and fastest battleships in history. Venture down Broadway, the longest and widest passage on the ship, and learn about the Chief Engineer and the 500 plus Sailors under his command. Stop in Fire Room #4 where you’ll get an intimate look at a three-story Babcock & Wilcox boiler then head into Engine Room #4 and see the machinery responsible for propelling the 887-foot battlewagon at top speeds of 30 knots. A stop in the aft plotting room will give guests a chance to fires the big guns and ultimately leave with an appreciation for the men who worked below the water line in the heart of the USS Missouri.
For safety purposes, please note that these tours can be physically strenuous and is not recommended for those with mobility constraints. Guests must be able to climb several sets of “ladders,” (Navy-talk for steep, narrow stairs) and navigate through tight doorways and low overheads. Closed toe shoes are mandatory and this tour is limited to guests ages 10 and above. These intimate tours have a capacity of ten visitors at a time and runs approximately 45 minutes. Captain’s Tour & Chief Engineer’s Tour are upgraded experiences and are in addition to General Admission and cost $30.00 per person.
Battleship Missouri MemorialSince opening in January 1999, the Battleship Missouri Memorial has attracted more than 9-million visitors from around the world with a fascinating tour experience showcasing the USS Missouri’s unique place in history. Located a mere ship’s length from the USS Arizona Memorial, the Mighty Mo completes a historical visitor experience that begins with the “day of infamy” and sinking of the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and ends with Japan’s formal surrender aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945.
The USS Missouri had an astounding career over five decades and three wars – World War II, the Korean War, and Desert Storm – after which it was decommissioned and donated to the USS Missouri Memorial Association, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Association operates the Battleship Missouri Memorial as a historic attraction and oversees her care and preservation with the support of visitors, memberships, grants, and donations.
Safety is our top priority. The Battleship Missouri Memorial is taking additional steps to assure guests will have a safe and healthy experience touring the Mighty Mo. We respectfully ask all visitors to abide by state of Hawaii safety guidelines while on site.
