The Battleship

Our Primary Artifact

Over the past dozen years, the USS Missouri Memorial Association has acquired a valuable resource of artifacts and archival materials largely donated by former USS Missouri crewmembers - veterans of World War II, the Korean War and Operation Desert Storm. Their contributions provide insight into the history, operation, organization and personal experience of life aboard America's Battleship Missouri.

Among all of the treasured artifacts in our collections, there is only one that can rightfully be called "our primary artifact" - the Battleship Missouri.

Guided by the Secretary of the Interior's Standards of Historic Vessel Preservation Projects, and with your support, restoration and preservation of Battleship Missouri is ongoing.

Research and documentation play a major role in our restoration and preservation efforts; each interior compartment, every individual feature onboard ship, every former crewmember - all provide information and insight into life aboard the ship. Battleship Missouri is indeed a living resource...and our primary artifact.
